[Half the city destroyed and Mjolnir hangs near but uselessly at his side. Thor doesn't mind battling with friends in training but this... this is not training. He knows the other Avengers are hale and whole; the Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the Captain directing resources and evacuating the city while Stark is in the process in coming up with a compound to bring Banner back to normal but... Thor is not sure if they'll ever get Dr. Banner back, as he looks into the Hulk's blinding eyes.]

------------------------------------

[the Hulk is pounding two cars at his sides into oblivion, his green eyes blazing at Thor across the way. He's been hulked out for too long, there's no way he's changing back....perhaps never. Banner is but a weak voice in the corner of his mind, begging him to stop but he doesn't have to stop. This could go on forever, the rage, the anger...

He bellows at Thor, rushing him with his shoulder down like a football player]

------------------------------------

[Thor has... Thor has hope. He's never understood the other man's rage but then, Thor never truly asked about it. He knows that modern society is frustrating enough and Thor knows he had his tantrums and moments where the street below his feet would shake. But it is his fault he never asked but then... would have Banner answered?

His eyes narrow when he recognizes the bellow, the charge. Thor doesn't bother to glance around to see if someone is behind him. It does not matter. He would be a wall. Though the Hulk is larger, Thor stands his ground. He is one of the few who can stand toe to toe with the engine of destruction.]

------------------------------------

[the increase in anger and adrenaline has made the Hulk even more powerful than before but he's getting careless, less focused if you can call it that. As he comes near Thor, he swings wildly trying to knock him off of balance...forgetting his hammer of course] HULK SMASH!!!!

------------------------------------

[Thor did not expect the knock, and he realizes what danger it can be. Usually Hulk is predictable in his attacks. But this is something he can defense easily. His feet skids across the pavement and Thor winces in pain. His hand nearly goes to the handle but then stops.... Thor then advances on the green monster with full intention on trying to hold him down.] You will not. I shan't allow it.

------------------------------------

CAN'T STOP ME!!! [there's a taunting quality in the Hulk's voice, something that wasn't there before. he was in this body and was staying there forever]

[his fists come down on the pavement, sending a wave of concrete at Thor]

------------------------------------

[And that alarms Thor, for all he knows with his dealings with the Hulk, the Hulk runs quickly and seems to know his time is short. This new emotion is... unacceptable.]

But I can, and I would, but I have a friend in there. And you will let him out.

[Even as the pavement thundering at him, Thor remains hopeful. He takes out his hammer and swings it rapidly in a circle, the concrete deflected with chucks flying back at the Hulk and slamming around the near deserted area.]

------------------------------------

[the Hulk stomps back and forth, leering at Thor...ducking when the concrete starts flying his way] NO FRIEND HERE! AAARRRRRR!!!!

[he picks up a car and flings it right at Thor]

------------------------------------

You have his body. He will get it back. [The Hulk... taunts... no he doesn't taunt often like this. But it takes Thor back just a little.]

[KUTHWACK!]

[Thor is knocked on his back, but readily springs to his feet before he takes another defensive position. If it was anyone else, anyone at all, Thor would charge. Instead he cautiously approaches the Hulk and grins.] I do believe Dr. Banner will come back. You didn't put much power before that lunge, did we?

------------------------------------

[the Hulk snarls at that (even if it might be the truth) he's too mad to care. Once Thor is close enough, he grabs him with both hands, holding him above his head] SHUT UP!!!

[smashes him down at the ground as hard as he can, his hand on his back]

------------------------------------

[There's a surprised cry as his body smashes against the cement, there was a thunderous crack and for a moment he felt a flare of pain. His vision was white for a second and for a moment... he forgot everything he was holding back.] ENOUGH! You will be taken down!

[The hammer was in his hand, and despite the pain that was fading quickly, he swung the hammer up, right between the massive legs.]

------------------------------------

[now that's a low blow...literally. In fact it sends the Hulk hurtling into the air and landing about 100 feet away with a crash]

[the monster lays on the ground for a moment, dazed and shaking his head as he tries to clear the cobwebs]

------------------------------------

[If this was a battle for honor, such tactics would be unforgivable. However, this is a battle of survival, and perhaps not the wisest move he could make. Perhaps.] Come then, beast. Until we get Banner out.

[A glance around. The risk was worth it. No one is around. And he's sure the other Avengers aren't either.] They say... [He muses to himself.] The madder the Hulk gets, the stronger he becomes.

[He's suspects Jormungandr's anger pale to the Hulk's. So he stands his ground.]

------------------------------------

[the Hulk snarls, still in pain which does indeed make him madder. Getting to his feet he charges like a freight train straight at Thor...and he's probably going to hit like a train too when he connects]

------------------------------------

[His hand feels too comfortable around Mjolnir's handle as he studies the Hulk changing at him. If he's quick enough... he can completely dodge.]

[Thor is just a hair too slow and barrels through the wall of a building with a cry of pain and anger.]

------------------------------------

[the Hulk follows after his path to the wall where a Thor sized imprint is left in the brick, his fist coming down at Thor's face. He's not holding back either, pounding him with both fists like a boxer taking down an opponent illegally...and there was no referee in this game]

------------------------------------

[Thor rolls away from the barreling fists, trying to spring up to his feet in time to dance away. His soles find purchase as he begins to summon the clouds and the rains. It will take moments, and he has to get outside. He needs the lighting, a well aimed, well balanced lighting strike and it will make all the difference. He attempts to get to the outside where the storm clouds gather.]

------------------------------------

GET BACK HERE!!! [the Hulk follows after, pulling up a telephone pole out of the ground the minute they are outside, swinging it like a long bat]

------------------------------------

[The clouds thicken over head and Thor allows him a glance to see if the storm heads are thick enough. Just a few moments longer before he can call his lighting down from the sky. Until then, he has to keep on his toes.]

[He manages to duck, his cape nearly caught, and he returns the strike with his hammer, the flat head with the intention of striking the Hulk squarely in the chest.]

------------------------------------

[Hulk takes the hit, pushed back a fair distance into a wall, crashing through it entirely. He crawls back out, madder than ever, struggling to get back to his feet quickly so he can run at Thor again]

[never wanting to stop]

------------------------------------

[It's time. And Thor takes in his breath as he clutches Mjolnir which nearly sings to him.]

[Thor calls down the lighting, and as he does, he realizes he waited too long. It's going to be too much.]

------------------------------------

It's an amazing sight, almost as if captured as a picture. The lightning strike is huge, almost as wide across as the Hulk. He is lunging mid-strike at Thor, one fist overhead. It is that arm that catches the lightning first and the Hulk lights up from head to toe, crackling with electricity. There's a long lasting yell from the beast as he tries to fight to move. But the charge is more than the Hulk has ever endured. When it's over, the green monster falls to the ground and lays still, his eyes closed.

------------------------------------

"No."

Thor simply looks on in horror as he waits for the massive body to shift, to shrink back to size to Dr. Banner. Banner will be crabby, yes. Banner will be starving. They will go home, a buffet, they will all laugh and they--

"No." He walks over to the monster, simply willing for it to shift back to his friend. He couldn't have put so much energy into that blast.

------------------------------------

It takes much longer than it usually does for Banner's body to return to normal, the large green frame still crackling with electricity and twitching now and again when it does. But it's only an illusion.

When it's just Bruce laying there, it's apparent he's not breathing. The charge had actually managed to stop his heart completely. He wasn't getting back up this time. Thor had stopped the unstoppable.

------------------------------------

"No." He should fumble with his intercom. He should call the Captain and Iron Man. Perhaps the Black Widow. And he thinks he does during the rush over to his fallen comrade's body.

He shakes Banner, a stupid gesture, because it will do nothing. "Banner. Doctor Banner. Stand up." He shakes the body again. It's still warm but is that from the life blood or the electricity? "You are not fooling me. Stand up!" His voice cracks. Banner was a comrade, a friend. And he had killed Banner with a miscalculation.

They find Thor ten minutes later, trying to coax the body to stand up as the rain pours down.

(ooc: *wibble*)

------------------------------------

ahhhhhhhhhhh I can't do it!!!!! D: alternate ending is a go
Jane is the first to reach him, trying to get him to stop and let go so the emergency services can take over. but the Paramedics are saying there isn't much hope, even if they could shock his heart back into working order after all this time, it's too wet. The paddles would never be able to direct the charge.

Jane shakes Thor's arm, trying to get his attention. "You could do it, couldn't you?? It's a slim chance but it might work."

------------------------------------

Even her soothing voice does not quite snap the grieving Storm Lord from pulling away. He barely hears her soft coax and the sharp barks of the paramedics. He's aching for his mistake, for the loss of a man who tried so hard to banish the inner demon that had taken literal form.

But Thor hears Jane the second time and her gentle touch. And the words of the paramedics and her pleading come together. Thor slowly nods and murmurs for her... for them, to stand back.

The call for his lighting is much shorter as he presses a hand against Banner's cold chest, his other hand on the hammer to focus his control. There is lightning, and there is thunder, and Thor attempts the channel the slim hope back into Banner's heart.

------------------------------------

Everyone clears back, getting into the cars and trucks they came in to avoid the lightning, giving him a wide berth.

Banner's body tenses against the electricity as the shock hits him straight through across his heart. When it stops, he falls limp again...

....but there's a slow heartbeat under Thor's hand.

------------------------------------

The large blond man smiles and lets out a breath that's caught between a sigh and bark of relief. He stands and backs away from Banner in two smooth motions as his hand gestures for those who've found shelter to hurry. Banner hasn't breathed in 10 minutes and the danger is not over just yet.

He listens, watches, as the paramedics do their magic; he considers breaking a rule of Asgard for a moment. The Healing Chambers would work quicker, better, but time is of the essence.

------------------------------------

The paramedics start CPR breathing, trying to get him to start breathing on his own but he's still too weak. They're bringing over a stretcher, intent on taking him to the hospital and trying to cover him with a large blanket to get him dried off in case his heart gives out again, but with the rain it's near impossible.

------------------------------------

It is then when Thor has the idea that perhaps... perhaps he can be able to get Banner to the healing chambers of Asgard. If he is the one to bring the scientist to the brink of death and drag him back to the living once more that is only fitting to try and heal him before the green one returns to full control.

------------------------------------

The paramedics really don't want to let Bruce go but after Shield talks to them, they agree to it. One of them shows Thor how to keep Bruce breathing with the bag valve mask, just to give it a careful squeeze every 60 seconds or so. They wrap Bruce up tightly in the blanket before letting Thor take him.

[continued here]

The wind whips as he stands by the new Bifrost site. There had been discussions on the foundation of the new site for Midgar and it was deemed acceptable to place it within New York state for now. It was closer to where Thor needed to go, though he did not particularly care for the filthy city. And luck would have it, it was close to where the Hulk was taken down.

The lord of Thunder was worried as he made sure all the medical equipment that was keeping Banner currently alive was in check. The sensation of being pulled to Asgard would be strange, frightening, but it wouldn't harm the fragile man. Others less durable traveled the prismatic roadways to Asgard from Midgar before.

After securing his friend he looked up to the sky and took a deep breath. The question was if Heimdall would allow Banner to come to the Golden City.

“Heimdall, open the Bifrost! We have need of Eir's attentions.”

The trip will be lost on Bruce, he's barely hanging on as it is. Thanks to the artificial respiration, he's still alive but his heart is weak at the moment. His gamma irradiated metabolism hasn't kicked in yet and there's little hope that it will on its own.
He lays very still, not having moved since he changed back.

Thor continued to stare up into the sky as an unsettled panic set within him. Surely, Heimdall would know him and allow him to come with his comrade. Or would... would the Hulk's prowess be known to Heimdall and he was afraid to bring such a threat to Asgard. Thor swallowed thickly and gestured to Banner, “I will handle him. All who come under my wing will be my responsibilities.”

It is then when he feels his body drawn up and he just has the time to glance to his side and see Banner is being drawn up as well. Moments later, they are within the chambers and Heimdall looks at him with golden red eyes. Thor says noting though his expression is grateful as he gathers up Banner.

Bruce is surprisingly light as he's picked up, such a contrast to his alter ego who could smash his fists through cars and walls. He's carried towards Asgard, limp as a rag doll...and missing the spectacular sights of the city towering over them.

Even when his body is the green giant, the weight is not the issue but rather the mass. Thor is gentle with his friend as he moves swiftly down the prismatic road. None of the Aesir greet their prince as he rushes to the Chambers of Eir for they recognize the look of fear and determination. It is not the first time Thor has brought a mortal to these realms, but it is the first time in over 11 centuries. He pauses only to fiddle with the Midgarian equipment before he comes to the Chambers and barks out orders at once. In moments, Banner is stripped of his clothing by Eir's aides and relieved of his breathing equipment. Swiftly, they take him to one of the long golden beds and place him under blue healing light...

Bruce is slowly coming around, his head lolling to the side and his eyes opening halfway. There was too much light for him to see clearly at first....the first thing he's able to make out is one of the handmaidens.

One of the angelic women smile when they see his eyes open. She conducts the light so the warmth is softer and the administration of their magic is less intense. “Oh, you are not in Valhalla or Niflheim, Lord Banner. You are merely in Asgard.” Her voice is light and musical, attuned to comforting those under Eir's watch. "And you are to be well, soon."

“You were.” Thor's voice corrects from the side of the room, “May I speak to him?”

It took a moment before he realized what she said. "Asgard..." he breathes out, trying to wrap his head around that bit of information.
